Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

WHY DID YOU CREATE DOCBIOS.COM?

Our goal at DocBios is to be the most comprehensive, easy-to-use resource for anyone that is seeking medical care. DocBios provides address, specialty, and contact information for over one million doctors and other health care providers. Users can search through our extensive database to find providers based on their location, doctor specialty, and even name and provider number. We also provide a venue for patients to rate and review health care professionals for the benefit of the community at large.

WHAT IS AN NPI NUMBER?

The Administrative Simplification provisions of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) mandated the adoption of standard unique identifiers for health care providers and health plans. The purpose of this was to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the electronic transmission of health information. The result of this mandate was the NPI numbering system. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) developed the National Plan and Provider Enumeration System (NPPES) to assign these NPI Numbers.

WHERE CAN I GET AN NPI NUMBER?

You can obtain an NPI number online by following this link to the NPPES, creating a login, and completing the appropriate application: NPPES Login

HOW CAN I SUBMIT A CORRECTION TO MY PROFILE?

While we try to keep as up-to-date as possible on doctor profiles, there may be times that profiles will contain old and/or outdated information. If, for some reason, you find that your information is erroneous, please feel free to use our convenient online update form to submit a correction. Our editors will review and verify each submission before any changes will be reflected on our site.

MY PROFILE CONTAINS MISLEADING AND/OR DISPARAGING REMARKS. WHAT CAN I DO?

Our goal is to create a healthy and helpful community of users that can be truly useful for those seeking medical care. However, due to the free and anonymous nature of the Internet, there will often be some "bad apples" that try to ruin the greater community. If you find that a review is unjust or slanderous, please contact us and our editors will be happy to review the comments. Please include your NPI number and/or a link to your profile to facilitate this process.

CAN YOU HIDE MY PROFILE INFORMATION?

Yes. If you feel that you would not like your information to be a part of this community you can submit a profile removal request via the online update form. Upon removal, all names, addresses and phone numbers will be removed from the NPI profile page. However, the NPI number, city, and state (with no identifying information) will still be available when searched directly in the NPI search. You can also contact us via our online form.

WHY DO YOU HAVE MY PERSONAL INFORMATION DISPLAYED?

The information displayed on DocBios is primarily based on the information you provided when filling out your NPI profile in the NPPES system. We would never knowingly publish your personal and confidential information on our website. If you find that your personal information is displayed on our website, please do not hesitate to use our online update form to submit your latest, professional information. You may also contact us to help with this. Please remember to include your NPI number and/or link to your DocBios profile to facilitate your profile update if you do decide to contact us. Again, we strive to respect the privacy of all healthcare providers and would never knowingly publish your personal and confidential information.
